For the first time in Rocketman History the Rocketbelt was equipped
with Pyrotechnics for a flight saluting our troops.
After a fun video of old Rocketbelt training footage, Fred
Willard introduced me and we had a great interview prior to the
historic flight.
Fred had asked if this was dangerous and we got a great laugh from
the audience when I answered: "I don't know, I have never done this
before?"
Until this point I do not know of any time the Rocketbelt flew with
pyrotechnics emitting from the Rocketbelt. I was able to wire a
firing system to the control handles of the Rocketbelt. It was
very interesting to ignite the fireworks not knowing what to expect.
I could see the sparks falling down during my landing and hoping it
would not set my foot on fire.
"Fred was such a
nice guy and fun to work with. I have always enjoyed his work.
Although our time was short, it was memorable."
